PART II - OPERATION

SECTION 8 - WARMING UP ENGINE

After starting, run the engine slowly (600-800 RPM) in order to warm it up gradually until the oil temperature has reached 90 F or 32 C. During the cold weather it may not be possible to reach this temperature and the engine should not be "revved up" until the oil pressure drops to around 15-20 lbs, when the throttle is closed. On the E-113C engine with plain bearings the pressure will drop to 60-70 lbs. After the oil has reached the proper temperature or pressure, the engine should be gradually brought up to full throttle. Before doing this, be sure the wheels are properly blocked and the control stick pulled back. The spark should be fully retarded during the "warming up" process. This is taken care of automatically by the throttle controlled spark used on all AERONCA engines after serial No. A-743.

When the above operating conditions have been reached, gradually open the throttle until it is fully open. Never do this suddenly as it imposes a considerable load on the engine. The manual spark control should be fully advanced for full throttle operation and also before taking off.

Do not operate the engine at full throttle on the ground any longer than is necessary, as continued running under these conditions may result in damaging the engine.
