PART II - OPERATION

SECTION 10 - STOPPING ENGINE

Always allow the engine to idle for a short time after running at full throttle before turning off the ignition switch. If the switch is cut immediately after landing with a hot engine, the sudden cooling of the cylinder heads is liable to cause them to crack and is also very bad for the valves. The engine should be left to idle on the ground with the gas line shut off until all of the gas is out of the carburetor and then the ignition switch should be turned off. This is in accordance with the Department of Commerce regulations.
