PART II - OPERATION

For satisfactory operation, it is essential that the engine be properly installed and maintained. It is of utmost importance that the correct fuel and lubricating oil be used.

SECTION 1 - FUEL

The best grades of fuel should be used always in the AERONCA engine. Their use will be found to be more economical in that the engine will operate with less trouble and develop more power with a lower fuel consumption.

The gasoline should have an anti-knock rating of at least 73 octane. A lower grade gasoline will require more frequent valve grinding and will contribute to the failure of the complete engine due to the increased cylinder head temperatures which may cause pre-ignition and detonation.

In cases of emergency the highest grade of fuel obtainable should be used but the engine must not be operated at full throttle any longer than is necessary.

Care should be taken that the fuel has no water or foreign matter in it. It may be advisable to strain the gasoline through a fine gasoline screen or a chamois before using it. Such precautions will help to eliminate forced landings.
