PART 1 - INSTALLATION

Section 6 - ATTACHING THE PROPELLER

The propeller should be mounted on the steel hub furnished with the engine so that the key slot in the hub is in the position shown below. This will place the propeller in the most advantageous position for a person starting the engine.

After assembling the propeller to the hub it should be checked for balance, as an unbalanced propeller will cause some roughness in the operation of the engine.

The propeller hub should be lapped to the crankshaft to insure a perfect fit (See Sec. 4-E Part V).

The crankshaft should be oiled lightly before the propeller hub assembly is mounted. The propeller hub nut should be pulled up tight and safetied with a cotter pin.

The propeller should now be checked for track at the two tips, if there is a difference of more than 1/16" between tips it should be corrected, preferably by placing a thin shim between the propeller and hub on the trailing side. Safety all nuts with cotter pins.

IMPORTANT - The propeller used on the AERONCA engine should be of an approved design. It should load the engine sufficiently so that the full-throttle level flight RPM of the engine does not exceed the Department of Commerce rated speed. This RPM must not under any circumstances exceed 105% of this rate of speed.

The full-throttle ground RPM will be approximately 200-230 RPM less than the full-throttle level flight RPM.
