PART 1 - INSTALLATION

Section 5 - IGNITION SYSTEM

Ignition is provided by a Bosch FF2AR Series S-531 Magneto equipped with a Bosch type C-123 impulse coupling for easy starting.

It is important that the magneto grounding wire from the magneto breaker cap through the switch to the engine base be installed with care so as to prevent any premature starting of the engine as might occur if the wiring were faulty. The magneto is shorted through this wire when the ignition switch is in the "off" position.

The spark is manually controlled on all of the engines of early manufacture. However beginning with AERONCA engine Serial No. A-743, the spark is controlled automatically by a lever system which connects with the carburetor throttle lever. This automatic spark control (Part No. 670) can be installed on any AERONCA engine equipped with the Zenith 156 AL Carburetor, or Stromberg NAS-2 Carburetor. Fig. 11 shows the complete installation. This automatic spark control prevents a take off with a retarded spark, reduces the stresses in the engine, allows a slower engine speed when coming in for a landing and gives a smoother overall engine performance.
