Here's a hint for cabling the aileron controls. Situation: If you modify the ceiling bulkheads allow ceiling interior below the spar carry-through (commonly done to make the interior look nicer) then the aileron cables will rub on the new lowered ceiling. The problem: As instructed in drawing 7-3 there is a fitting 1-211 that connects the cables from the ailerons with the cables from the control wheel. This connection occurs in the top of the cabin, near the skylight, along the centerline of the fuselage. The problem is that fitting 1-211 is not the proper size to allow a straight cable-run from the various cable sources. That is, the cables will rub on the interior (ceiling) or on the sides of cable holes in ceiling bulkheads 5-10. One possible solution: Make fitting
1-211 longer so that the cable run is more straight and does not rub on the
fuselage, fabric, or interior. The new fitting is approximately 1/2"
longer. Important Note: Be cautious of making this fitting
too much longer as it may induce sluggishness and lag into the controls.
That is, the fitting tends to twist sideways slightly as force from the
control-wheel cables are exerted onto the bottom of fitting 1-211 while
resistance is created from the aileron cables connected to the top of 1-211.
This will cause the fitting to tip, or rotate, a small amount before starting to
move the aileron cables. |
