Aeronca Photo DVD

2008 will be the year of the Aeronca Photo DVD. Submit your digital photos. Cut off is May 31, 2008

I am collecting as many photos of Aeroncas as I can to publish on a DVD dedicated to just photos of Aeroncas. I plan to give it away for free, just like the Aeronca Drawing DVD. I will also publish the photos on the web and other suitable publications.

So get your digital camera and start taking pictures. Make your airplane look as nice as you can. Your photo may become somebody's screen saver or posted on the hangar wall or office cubical.
Since this is technically considered commercial usage of the photos, I will need to know who took the photo and receive their specific permission (in writting or email) to use these photos for any purpose, including the DVD. (Liability stuff, sorry.)

Instructions: For each photo please:

  1. Specify the Aeronca model and N-number.
  2. Provide the photographer name and permission to use the submitted photo for any purpose.
  3. Give a description of each photo, including the date, location and interesting facts.
  4. Send the pictures to ttad@aol.com or send a CD to Todd Trainor, 2285 Ore Creek Lane, Brighton, MI 48114.

Guidelines for good photos:

  1. Medium to high-resolution pictures.
  2. Bright, clean, crisp photos with good lighting and contrast.
  3. Free of distracting clutter or backgrounds.
  4. Fill the frame with airplane(s). Cropped photos should retain the normal proportions of a photo.
  5. Action photos, air-to-air, ground-to-air, multiple Aeroncas.
  6. Project airplanes are discouraged. Airworthy airplanes only, please.
  7. Try to avoid tie-down ropes, tents, chairs, normal cars, wagons, strollers, etc. Indoor photos are discouraged.
  8. Avoid recognizable and unknown people in the picture. The owner, friend, etc with permission is OK.
  9. Combination shots are encouraged, say with a classic car, bike, hotrod, warbird, antique or other Aeroncas.
  10. Other uninteresting and run-of-the-mill airplanes in the picture is discouraged.
  11. Make it look as professional as possible.
  12. Scanned pictures of a photograph rarely works well.
  13. Some detailed shots will be considered, such as a panel, bomber logo, or other interested detail.
  14. Unique settings and fancy photo skills is encouraged. (Misty mornings, sunsets, colorful autumn, theme, next to a 747, etc.)
  15. International registrations are greatly encouraged. This is a worldwide effort. How many countries can we get?

Once the DVD is published, I am going to figure a way to have everybody vote on the best picture. So be creative and professional.

Not all submitted photos will make the final cut.

Forgive me if I don't reply to your submissions. I will be saving them for later review and selection. I'm sure there will be a rush of submissions. Unfortunately, I am not retired yet, so I still have to work 50 hours a week.

I look forward to seeing your photos. I’ve been wanting to do this project for a long time. If you have questions, contact me.
